of the Week
word or phrase to add to your army.
Bioluminescent (by-o-loo-men-ess-ent) is not only a really magnificent word, it is also one of nature's miraculous little feats.
Lightning bugs, or fireflies, depending on where you are from, have bioluminescent rear ends, which means they glow in the dark. The miraculous part is that they light up without electricity or batteries or recharging. They simply light up on their own in the dark. That's where the "bio-" comes in. It is accomplished biologically or chemically.
Even though science makes sense of it, to me, it is magical. There are other creatures that are also bioluminescent.
Would you like to glow in the dark?
I am Becky Lyn Rickman. I am a writer because I love words almost as much as I love the people in my life. I want to fill the world with magnificent words and then jump in and splash around in them. I live with Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy, my cats, but the only words they really love are "meat" and "gravy."
